The history of Charmail dates back to the 16th century when the Trevey de Charmail family settled in the Médoc region. The estate's renown grew in the 1750s when Louis XV served Charmail to his court, marking the beginning of its widespread fame. Since then, the land has been continuously cultivated for viticulture, drawing strength and power from its rich past and deep-rooted Médoc traditions.

Since 1982, owner Olivier Sèze has swiftly introduced Château Charmail wines to the cellars and tables of discerning wine enthusiasts. As an agronomist and innovative winemaker, he made significant strides in winemaking techniques. Today, the estate moves forward on solid foundations, bolstered by a strong reputation and high demand.

In 2008, Bernard d'Halluin joined the estate, bringing the resources and determination needed to guide it into the future. Over five years, he significantly expanded the property, extended the buildings, targeted export markets, and transitioned to organic farming. Sébastien Pineau, a mentee of Olivier Sèze and the son of a winemaker, became the winemaker alongside Bernard. As a skilled technical director, he manages the vineyard with a team of 15 people and has played a key role in the success of Charmail wines.

In 2021, the Goudet-Liquard family joined forces with Bernard d'Halluin and Sébastien Pineau, the great winemaker of Charmail, to restore the Grand Charmail estate to its 16th-century spirit.

Together, this wonderful team, composed of several talented winemakers, motivated staff, and a dedicated family, proudly carries the Grand Charmail project forward. United by a shared passion for viticultural excellence and a deep respect for the terroir, they strive to perpetuate the spirit of innovation and boldness that defines Charmail's reputation. Thanks to this synergy, the estate continues to write its history, blending tradition and modernity to offer wine enthusiasts around the world exceptional wines that embody the soul of this unique terroir.
